My uncle died last week. My scholarly, tall, strong, sensitive, fun, inspiring Uncle Paul passed away after fighting kidney cancer.
He accepted his death with such quiet grace and wisdom and spiritual strength, that many of us were in awe of his choices and eloquence. This summer he published an article titled "The Joys of Dying."
To hear his students and friends and other family members talk about him this past weekend at the visitation and funeral, I felt the fullness and impact of his life in a profound, meaningful way.
It was such a bittersweet weekend.
He was buried Saturday on a hill in a beautiful, large cemetery on a breathtakingly poignant, sunny fall day.
I will never forget him and the solidness of his presence in our lives. What a gift to be able to celebrate his life with my family and freinds.
Goodbye, Paul. We will miss you so very, very much.
